Practical guide · Updated
The weakest topic is not automatically the best place to spend every lesson. A useful GCSE plan considers the course demands, prerequisite gaps and the time available to teach them properly.
Compare three topics using recent work. Identify which appears regularly in the relevant course, which blocks other learning and which can be practised meaningfully now. Discuss the choice with the subject teacher or tutor rather than relying on a generic prediction of what will appear in an exam.
Review the priority when new evidence arrives. Keep the exam board, tier and specification explicit, and preserve time for secure topics too. A focused plan supports learning; it cannot guarantee that a particular question or grade will follow.
Before using a worksheet or video, name the gap it addresses: choosing a method, carrying out a step, interpreting a graph or explaining evidence. After using it, attempt a new question that tests that gap.
If the answer is still uncertain, identify what the resource did not explain and take that to the tutor. Keep the exam board, tier and course explicit. A resource is useful when it changes what the learner can do, not simply because it has been watched, downloaded or added to a revision folder.
We identify gaps, agree clear goals and teach in a way that makes progress easy to see.
We review current grades, target grades, exam board and the topics that are costing the most marks.
The plan balances topic teaching with retrieval, exam questions and regular review of progress.
Each session includes clear teaching, guided practice and useful feedback for students and parents.
Every resource connects to the student's plan, so independent revision reinforces the right content and exam skills. Use our free GCSE Maths diagnostic test to identify a useful starting point.
