Turn observation feedback into one teachable classroom change
Feedback becomes more manageable when it leads to a specific action that can be tried and reviewed. “Improve questioning” is too broad to plan on its own.
A practical example
Choose one lesson moment and one change, such as allowing pupils time to formulate an answer before selecting a response. Decide what evidence would help you review it: the range of pupils responding, the quality of explanations or a mentor’s observation of that moment.
Discuss the plan with the appropriate school mentor and keep pupil information anonymous in external mentoring conversations. Teaching Success mentoring is additional support, not an awarding body, an accredited QTS route or a replacement for a school’s formal assessment and induction arrangements.
Bring an anonymised lesson decision to the mentoring discussion
Choose one decision from a recent lesson, such as when to check understanding before moving on. Describe the intended learning, what you observed and which alternative you are considering.
Remove pupil names and unnecessary identifying details. Ask what evidence would help judge the alternative at the next opportunity, then discuss it with the appropriate school mentor. This keeps additional mentoring focused on professional reflection without presenting it as an accredited qualification, a QTS assessment service or a substitute for the school’s formal processes.
