After an entrance test, give learning a new purpose
If the child’s entrance test has already taken place, a final-push timetable is no longer the right organising principle. Agree a goal that supports Year 6 learning while the family follows the official next steps.
A practical example
Choose an activity previously overshadowed by timed practice: discussing a longer book, writing a clear explanation or exploring a maths problem with more than one method. Let the child help select the goal and show what they have learned without converting everything into a test score.
Follow the relevant school or admissions authority for results and application instructions. If a test is still ahead for a different route, confirm its actual date and requirements directly. Do not assume every Year 6 pupil shares the same admissions timetable.
Move from a finished entrance test to a Year 6 learning goal
If the child has completed the relevant entrance test, choose a new goal from current schoolwork: explaining a fraction method, summarising a passage or editing a paragraph for clarity. Ask the child which goal would feel useful now.
Keep results and application administration in an adult checklist using official sources. Do not turn uncertainty about an offer into repeated mock testing. Where a different entrance test is still ahead, confirm its actual arrangements and plan specifically for it rather than assuming every Year 6 pupil is on the same timetable.
