Check answer-sheet alignment after a skipped question
A pupil can understand several questions and still lose marks if answers are recorded against the wrong numbers. Familiarity with the response process is a separate practical skill.
A practical example
Create a short, original five-question quiz and a numbered answer sheet. Deliberately skip question three, then answer four and five in their correct spaces. Compare the question numbers with the answer rows before marking.
Discuss how to keep track within the instructions for the actual test. Do not invent a new marking system that conflicts with those instructions. This activity checks recording accuracy without needing another full mock, and any forthcoming sitting should be confirmed directly rather than assumed from an older webpage.

Review a skipped question without turning it into a failure
After a practice paper, choose one skipped question and attempt it without time pressure. Ask whether it was unfamiliar, slow to interpret or difficult to calculate. Record the reason before deciding what to practise.
If the child solves it securely now, discuss the timing decision. If not, teach the missing concept. This avoids treating every blank as the same problem. Follow the actual test’s section instructions when practising navigation; this review activity does not grant permission to return to a closed section in a real test.

Common questions.
How does auto-marking work?
Multiple-choice sections are marked against the answer key on the day. You get a percentage score per section plus a comparison against the grammar school benchmark range.
What year group is the mock test for?
Year 4, 5 or 6. Year 5 is the ideal time — enough preparation ahead to act on the result. Year 6 children also benefit if the real exam is still a few months away.
What time are the weekend sessions?
Morning sessions, typically 9:30am or 11:00am, to replicate the time of day of the real exam. Exact time confirmed when we confirm your slot.
