What a Year 3 tutor should be doing
Year 3 is the start of Key Stage 2, and the step up is real: formal written methods in maths, paragraph writing and inference in English, and a faster pace overall. A tutor helps a child adjust to that shift without losing confidence.
Where Year 3 students most often need help
Common needs are resistance to formal maths methods after relying on mental tricks, weak inference in reading, and shaky spelling from the new statutory word list. We usually support maths and English at this stage, and the free trial lesson is where we work out which subject and which specific gaps to prioritise.
The assessment that shapes Year 3
There is no national test in Year 3, which makes it an ideal year to fix foundations quietly. The one date on the horizon is the Year 4 Multiplication Tables Check, so we start building table fluency early.
How lessons work
Teaching Success matches each student to a qualified teacher for their stage and priority subject. Weekly one-hour sessions combine focused teaching, worked examples, independent practice and a short review of earlier material so progress holds. Lessons run in person in Smethwick and Birmingham, or online across the UK, from £15 an hour, and always start with a free trial so families can check the fit before committing.
Looking ahead
At the Lower Key Stage 2 stage, Year 3 sets up the more technical grammar and multiplication work of Year 4. We keep every plan tied to the next real milestone so lessons always have a clear purpose.
