Why touch typing is worth teaching properly
Typing is a daily skill for schoolwork, coursework, applications and office tasks. How the course is structured

Typing lessons do not create an entitlement to exam access arrangements. Schools and exam centres decide whether a word processor is appropriate under current rules, based on evidence and the learner's normal way of working.
For adults
Adults often book because typing slows down email, reports, applications or data entry. The adult course uses the same accuracy-first structure but applies it to workplace text sooner, often alongside Microsoft Office training for a broader workplace-skills plan.

- Hide the hands gradually: Use a light cover only when key positions are familiar enough to avoid frustration.
- Practise difficult pairs: Create short drills for recurring letter combinations rather than repeating easy text.
- Retest after two weeks: Compare accuracy first, then speed, using a passage of similar difficulty.
How Touch Typing Progress Is Measured
A speed score on its own can reward rushed, inaccurate typing. The course records three measures: accuracy, words per minute and how often the learner looks down. A short unfamiliar passage is repeated at sensible intervals so the comparison is fair.
- Accuracy first: repeated errors are identified by key or finger instead of hidden inside an overall score.
- Comfort: posture, hand position and unnecessary tension are checked before increasing practice time.
- Transfer: the learner types a school, study or workplace paragraph rather than completing drills only.
